Well thats what me and SWMBO had yesterday. She is frightened in more than a force 2...So we launched at 2 pm sailed around..dropped the hook in Whitwell Creek and had our picnic, sailed a bit more and hauled out again at about 6-45 p.m. mindful we had to be out of the boat park by 'lock up' time at 8 P.M. A pleasant (if slightly dull from a sailing perspective) sail.

Last night "they" cleared off early and all exits were locked up tight by 7-40.....we know cos we were the wrong side of the gate at 7-45. We tried various phone numbers and got answer machines.

By a miracle I had a sleeping bag and a picnic blanket in the car, so all we needed then was food, so we tramped off to the White Horse in Empingham on foot and made it about 2 minutes before they stopped serving at 9pm (phew) so SWMBOs temper was calmed by a very nice meal. We had a lovely walk back, and all things considered ( 1 cocoon bag unzipped between two and a cheap picnic blanket) we did managed a nights sleep of sorts back on board in the boatpark.

It was quite fun in a way, but someone is getting a phone call on monday. On the other hand when we rang our daughter (17) to tell her we would not now be home, she laughed her head off.

I did suggest to SWMBO we went for an early morning sail this morning....Oh no..and it was chucking it down at 8 am, so we have snuck home. SWBO has to commute back to work 150 miles on a sunday, so I can't blame her really.

Thats funny, my Aunt and uncle were locked in at Rutland last year as well, they had been down cycling and had a dinner reservation at the White Horse, when the gate was locked up early....... but he carries a set of bolt croppers in their camper.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We were there yesterday morning for my daughters birthday party.. left about 1.30pm so must have just missed you..

I would have got a rope around the tow bar and onto the gate......

Slight correction. We dropped the hook in Barnsdale Creek, not Whitwell. It was so quiet we had time to watch the grebes fishing, and train a gang of ducks to sail in line astern behind the boat as we departed, dropping bits of bread.

I must try this photobucket thing, I have a few snaps, but none as good as yours

Can't get my kids near water. One rides mountain bikes, the other horses.(and they are considerably older) We were probably there when you were Paul, but without a Parker I don't think I'd recognise you. Looks like you all had a lot of fun.
