Alright, a simple summary;
The English criminal courts have power over; all vessels (and persons on them) in UK Waters and UK vessels on the high seas (defined as where great seas go, so includes rivers, ports etc).
In addittion an English court can try an offfence of Murder/Genocide committed by a UK citizen anywhere in the world.
There are also international offences, drug related/piracy/hijacking for which the RN can arrest on the high seas.
There is also power to try any offences under the Merchant Shipping Acts by crew of a British ship.
So English criminal law as to for example; powers of arrest, self defence, evidence etc would apply on a UK yacht sailing to say the US even in a US harbour (although once in territorial waters the US Courts would also have jurisdiction) but in the case of a US Yacht sailing from the UK, the English Court would only have jurisdiction while she was in UK Waters, unless the offfence was murder committed by a UK national.
The UK croner will investigate the death of a UK citizen, normally resident in the UK anywhere in the world.
Just to show Lawyers are human too.

You're right. It was a silly response from Mr MDL which reveals more about that company's attitude than anything else.

thanks for apology although i dont think you needed to!! and i wasnt after one!!
but i suppose to follow the subject on. if some one was to die at sea on a double handed boat and the situation was such that a burial at sea was necessary, how would any one ever know cause of death?

I disagree. The original post was of short of facts, and mis-spelt, as Mr MDL pointed out. The semi literate abusive outpouring of bile in the second post confirmed the balance of Mr MDL's post.
Do we really want such posts on the forum?
 
Oh Dear, Fergie, please do not subject the forum contributers to such a barrage of abuse, no matter who they may be - if you cannot argue your case without recourse to personal insults, pls don't bother. As an MDL customer, who is neither unfortunate or stupid, but has had the opportunity to sit face to face with John Watson to put forward IDEAS for reducing the cost of MDL berthing in the future, I can tell you they were received with courtesy, and a promise to see what can be done. John can fight his own battles, but in his defence, he has the courage to face us on this forum and in doing so, lays himself open to such abuse. In my opinion he is certainly not indifferent, incompetent, and above all certainly not a cretin - you do the man an injustice. Like you I am very anxious to see marina costs fall, but whilst Mr Watson is anxious to improve MDL's realtionship with it's customers, we should not forget he is also responsible for the wellbeing of his Company and it's shareholders. The way forward is for constructive criticism and positive suggestions, not personal attacks.......

well said. I wd like there to be more industry types like jw, and personal attacks won't makem feel welcome. I think jw is made of fairly stern stuff though...and I note that the right people were invited to the ybw post-show party. Oh heck, i mentioned the forum party!

I'm placing you on temporary ban to cool down. There are pretty clear cut guidelines on abuse of other users and you have quite clearly over stepped them, particularly in the post that I have now suspended - threats of physical violence have no place here.

You'll be more than welcome to resume posting once I have your reasurance that your language will be in keeping with what is expected.

To be fair Nicho it seems to me that it was JW who brought this down to the personal level, sure Fergie generalised in his original comment and was OTT in that, but JW attacked him on a personal level and was surely in the wrong for that.....Kim should treat both equaly here...JW might well be a rare breed but he sure as ain't sacrosanct......is he??...if so well whats the point of this lot?
 
Not so!

Fergie wrote "we are all being ripped off by the likes of MDL" without adding anything to justify or substantiate the comment. As MD of the company, John was enitled to respond, which he did (non-abusively albeit somewhat patronisingly) in defence of his company and, no doubt, himself.

The susbsequent postings by Fergie demonstrate beyond argument who is guilty of personal abuse.

Sorry. I am trying to help the market-place understand that my company wishes to be user friendly and I do get upset when we get attacked. Not for me, but for my people.

While not really wanting to take this much further (as JW is clearly holding out the olive branch, and I think we all think the better of him for that!) I just need (what a fool i am!) to reply to your post......in this day and age to call someone 'sad' is very much an abusive comment...it attacks deeply a persons character and social outlook.....nothing at all to do with his mood...... akin to calling someone gay me thinks...the words carry far more then they seem and the sarcasm at the end was just salt in the wound.....not to mention been critical of his spelling etc......these are personal attacks and totally unwarented here...(as i'd very much agree fergies later comments were....) .....not quite the same as attacks /critisisums on companies. organisations and or institutions me thinks......anyway thats me down off the soap box and away to me bed......
