June's Yachting Monthly

June edition is supposed to be out but can't find it locally........still May's edition on the shelves!
Why is there any need to have the June issue of any magazine on the shelves in April for Gods sake. It's just daft, confusing and annoying. The cover date should reflect the calendar month in my simple world. Why not really go to town and make it the December 2017 issue?

Cheers, Brian.

13 issues a year, one every 4th Thursday. Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Summer, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec. If you like we can ask them to hide them from you until the correct month and burn the summer one?

June's issue is the one unfortunately stamped at the top of the front cover: '12 volt power on passage: how to choose the right inverter'.

Of course, the answer to having 12V power on passage is just to use your 12V battery. What YM meant to write was '240V power on passage'.

The article's helpful enough, if you can read past the author's confusion between his amps and his volts and an arithmetic mistake.

The rest of the edition is actually a typically healthy YM. I shan't be canceling my subscription.

It is to do with news stand sales
If you put a later date on it the casual browser is more likely to buy it believing it to have the latest news
If in june he picks it up & it has April on it he will look on it as out of date old stock & often discard it
I have wondered why they do not put an annual issue No. on them then no one will know what date it is

Sadly this is all true. I used to edit a magazine released on the 15th of each month. Many readers genuinely thought a rival mag, released a week earlier, gave them an earlier peek at the same information, as though news arrived in discreet monthly bundles. The daft practice of advance dating is simply taking best advantage of such gullibility.

I've worked in monthly magazines and daily newspapers.... the idea that there can be 'news' in a magazine that takes a month to put together is laughable. Does anyone see anything in YM's news section that they've not already read about here or in other publications? YM's news is best when it is doing original investigatory work [the seacocks campaign or red diesel stories, for example] but most of it is old before it even goes to press, far less hits the shelves.
