June Motor Boats Monthly

So what does the EA have in their arsenal to take me out with?

saw this going up and down on Friday:-

... wondered why they needed 2*135HP on the non tidal Thames... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

What hurts me when I see a boat like this abandonded to the elements is the fact there's a lot of people out there who would love to cherish and restore it. They can't afford to buy one but would cheerfully put time and energy into making the boat useable again. I recall a Princess 32 being made like new by a Lorry Driver after he acquired it as a wreck. It took him 3 years but when it was finished it was a delight.

There's quite a few properties up and down that would fit that description as well, including one next door to me!

The local council have powers of compulsory purchase, maybe a similar power should be available for derelict boats? Whilst I believe that it is everyone's right to leave their prooperty in whatever state they decide (that, surely, is the nature of "property"), boats do ultimately become a pollution risk and a hazard to shipping; owners should have to maintain or remove them.

We moored behind her on our way back from Byron's. Very sad. She sank further even while we were there and there was nothing we could do - she was full of water at the back. But then that's Birchwood's for you....

Passed that EA boat as we were coming out of Boveney Lock on Saturday Afternoon. They did give me an odd look!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Salvage does not apply within the 3 mile limit. HOWEVER! lost and found law does. Egro you 'find' the boat report it to the Police that you have it. After the due period it becomes yours.
