Got a week free 8 July and thinking of first charter in Mallorca. Would it be so busy as to be a hassle? Happy anchoring but that looks busy as well. Can you book ahead for public quays? Other Med ideas outside of Ionian would be welcome. Just the two of us so chill week with nice vistas. Thanks.

Public Quays are the cheapest option and fill up quickly but they are not bookable. Even marinas in July can be full. It is very expensive now. Marinas can be £100 a night for a 44 footer. You might be a bit cheaper if there are only 2 of you and have a smaller boat.

I don't yet know Mallorca so can't comment about that but for other Med places outside the Ionian then a charter from the Split area of Croatia or the Sporades in Greece would be high up my list for the multiple choices between busy towns and almost empty anchorages even in high season. Both have their share of very crowded anchorages too.

IIRC the public quays can be booked a few days in advance and some allow lunch stops for shopping etc. If you charter from Palma how about a round trip to the Cabreras ? Booking there via this link, try both Charter and Private as the wardens dont check.

I think we may have spoken this morning but if not hope following helps - July is getting into peak season so yes busy but you can book in advance in some marinas and the ports ib (council) berths will take reservations but this must done be on line(we certainly get a few clients each year that have pre booked each destination) Most don't and rarely hear of big problems. The ports that won't take advance bookings can usually be phoned on the day to reserve & even if they say they don't know as yet then can be called back later so by 11 you can have a good idea of where to end up. Our sea school instructor who ends up all over at odd times always found a berth last year and 2016 was vbusy year. Worst case a little flexibility and planning is required. Price wise can be very hit and miss and changes randomly - you can pay 100 per night but more often than not 30 to 70 will cover it. The places you may expect to be mega for instance Club nautico Palma can be very reasonable and last year the most expensive seemed to be a marina in the South that has very little to recommend it apart from as a mid way stop over

I spent 5 years based in Mallorca and 3 years based in Adriatic.

I would recommend a charter in Croatia

Lots of choice. Still room in marinas and to anchor. Not as quiet in July as other times obviously but you'll hae a better time

Thanks for all the replies, information and ideas. Definitely want to charter in Mallorca but going to leave it till quieter months. Croatia is certainly a possiblity we shall look into, thanks.

Lived in Majorca for 8 years... now living aboard in the Carib for now. If I wanted a lovely charter week, anytime in May would be far better than July. It is a lovely place though.

Busy Cala in peak season
Porto Petro off season.

We spent a season in Mallorca, and yes it is busy in the summer but we always found a quite spot. Fantastic Island and we get back there at every opportunity. Palma is one of my favourite cities and I have started to expand the brokerage to cover there.

Cabrera is a national park, not far from Palma, you need to book, but it's beautiful.
