As this is ECF, I know I will be forgiven for my cross-posting on the Thames Forum...

As we applied, and were not successful, to join the Avenue of Sail, we've been sent tickets for a viewing spot on Chelsea Bridge. Anyone from here going?

Does you need tickets to view the pageant!!?:eek:

I was hoping to go to the river outside st Katharine's dock and see the pageant from there. Does anyone know whether you can just turn up to watch the pageant, or do you need tickets. If tickets are required, how do you get hold of them?

it is my understanding that anyone can go and watch from anywhere they can find a good spot.

The organisers offered tickets to 'special viewing platforms' for those who were unlucky in their application to join in.

If you look on the website you will see that lots of roads and bridges are closed and i suspect this is to make space for these 'special' places. we've been given a tickets to view the pageant from Chelsea Bridge - which is one of the bridges that is closed all day.

if I'd known that then I would have applied :( We are going up by train and walking west from The Tower until we find a spot.

Get there early!
Our tickets say that bridges will be closed by 9am and we are advised to get to our spot by midday. The procession starts at 2, so there'll be a fair bit of loitering going on. If this weather continues it'll be mobbed!

As I understand it all the bridges are closed to the public, so that means they can charge for those vantage points...

it's been a bit of a pig's ear re organisation and information though.

for example, it says Chelsea Bridge is one of the three bridges that are opened, but our tickets say it closed to all except ticket holders. it says something like "if you not do not have the ticket and photo id to mach the security, you will not gain admittance to the bridge".

So I wonder which is correct?

for those that cant make it shotley point yacht club has a parade of sail on the river followed by a 50's party with skiffle band (although that part is by ticket and i believe it has closed for applications) got a great wig off ebay!
