just bought this radar off ebay. everthing works except the lcd backlighting, any ideas on how much this will cost to get repaired or any other solutions

Forgive me but have you turned the backlight on? It has a number of levels one of which is off.

YES IT,S 1 TO 9 THEN OFF.
ALL THE DIAL,S AND BUTTONS LIGHT UP ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND STAY ON ONE LEVEL, BUT THE LCD STAYS OFF

I think you'd need to get a decent service dealer to repair it, so you'll be looking at paying quite a bit for labour. I'd guess a bill of £100-200. Was this the set described on eBay as "Full working order" - how about talking to the seller?

THIS ONE:
JRC 1000 Mk II LCD Radar, with 'Scanstrut' mast mounting bracket. Recently removed from Contessa 26.

Full working order - can be demonstrated. Clean and in very good condition. Age not known but Handbook dated 2003.

Scanner unit (12" diameter), display unit with sun cover and bracket, power and instrument cables to connect compass and nav (optional), 15m (full length) interunit cable, instruction manual. Complete and ready to fit.

have spoken to him, he tell,s me that it was working when he sent it

No connection.. but had a JRC 1000 on my last boat.. bought from MES
