I'm putting a shortlist together for a bluewater cruiser (a long way off yet, but keeps me dreaming during the dark evenings!)

I've got quite a few candidates but came across a few 'Jouet' models (a 1300 caught my eye) but cant find any info on the internet about builders, reviews etc.

It looks like they were either built or distributed by 'Yachting France' does anyone know anything about these boats?

I'd like to know about build quality, handling, etc.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Jouet

Hi, I've owned a Jouet 950 for almost 6 years. She was built by Yachting France in 1984, the designer was called Yves Marschall. Unfortunately info on Yachting France appears non existant. With reguards to the 950 (refers to length on deck, 10m LOA) she is a fantastic boat. She sails extremely well, is very fast and feels very safe when conditions are poor. Have had no problems (except for engine and cannot blame Yachting France) with the boat other than normal maintenance issues.

Mine was a little 680. Terrific build quality and full of nice little touches. Sailed well, one of Jean Berret's designs. Proper little boat.

I reasoned that they went out of business as their cost base must have been high.......

[QUOTE "From what I gather they seem to be quite a high build quality, I think I'll have a closer look a a few that are up for sale".[/QUOTE]

My Jouet 920 was a delight to sail - out of Port Solent with kite up overtaking stinkboats! And planing at 13-15 knots - terrifying! BUT the keel moved enough to justify a major rebuild to strengthen inadequate floors. And the Volvo engine needed a rebore. Apart from that . . .

Jouet 920

We have two customers with Jouet 920's here in Plymouth and both of the owners have been thrilled with them. We made new sails for them both and made the spinnaker a bit bigger and they have cleaned up in PY for about three years. One of them goes offshore regularly and the boat has proven solid and reliable. I have attached a picture of Jelly Bean the first of the Jouets we got in Plymouth.

Please Tom Price if you're still on this forum, I'm looking into buying Jouet 920, there's some slight cracks inside, I've attached a photo. I'm interested in the strengthening work that was carried on on your boat if any info is available. Thanks for any help

I owned Jelly Bean from 1994 until 2006 and sold her to the gentleman in Plymouth, it was always a ‘happy’ boat and a pleasure to own. It is back on the East Coast now living in Heybridge

I would love to see the picture, it didn’t attach?

I'd really love to know more about her adventures TJ as I will be bringer her back to life, she's currently ashore in Fambridge. I intend to film the whole adventure, I'll also be living aboard over the winter while I fix her.

She looks great. Where do you intend to keep her?
if you want more photos from my ownership do a search on Yachtsnet as the owner of that site used the photos from our ‘sale’ website to add to his archives.
I will PM you with my recollections of our ownership, including the sauvetage incident.
Would love to hear more TJ

I'm not Tom Price but those cracks don't look "slight" to me, they look expensive?

Hi everyone. I think I have the other Joet 920 that was mentioned in Plymouth! She is called Racy Lady and has been in Plymouth for a good few years now but was originally based in the Solent. I bought her in 2018 and she needed quite a bit of work as she had been raced quite hard and then not used much for a couple of years before I bought it.
I think it is the same boat Tom Price was talking about in a prevoius post as the documentation I have has notes of it overtaking "stinkboats"!
I wasnt an experianced sailor when I bought it (and by no means am I now) so didnt understand that she was rigged for racing with running backstays. Ended up having to get the riggers to convert back to cruising. Just in the process now of upgrading nav equipment etc ready to (hopefully) sail to france later this year.
It is a great boat though - I've had nearly 8 knots in Plymouth sound and thats after I had the mast shortened and a main sail that is slightly undersized. I've started a youtube chanel to document the trip to France and the lead up to this (Sailing Racy Lady) so if you want to see some videos of her take a look.

I bought a Jouet 94 ms in 2019 , she’s my first boat , motor sailor , she has been well looked after by her previous owners . The pre purchase survey was a very good one , the boat just needed basic repairs / replacements eg gas hoses . she is a twin keeler , has in mast furling main and Genoa . She seems to be very well built , when removing the log to clean and grease it I noticed the Hull between the keels is apr two and a half inches thick . As a re learner , not sailed much since leaving the MOB in 77 other than the broads and a few hours on the Orwell and stour with family and friends prior to buying her . I’ve attached a few photos, as others have mentioned on other threads , “ information re Jouets is hard to come by “ , fortunately I was given the original sales brochure when I bought her , so the mystery of the two professionaly filled holes on the starboard bow , found by the surveyor was revealed, the heads has been relocated .
