Jouet 680

Hi All,

Does anybody have any experience of the Jouet 680? Good or bad. I have had a look on the internet and there appears to he very little info.

I am looking at downing sizing and there is one for sale very near me.

I will be sailing on the Thames estuary and just wondered how they perform in either a breeze or a chop ( or as usual when racing in both?)

Not specifically but Euro boats of that era tend to be modern in design, roomy for their size, easy & fun to sail - like a big dinghy. Quick enough, bouncy/slammy in a chop. What are you used to?

Current boat is a Mirage 26, so slightly bigger and heavier but she will also bounce and slam in a chop, especially when sailing in wind over tide conditions. I am just looking for something a little smaller that makes more sense as a singlehander with the occasional over night stop.

But it's how it's set up not size that makes a particular boat amenable to being sailed single handed. Going smaller isn't necessarily going to make it easier or make more sense. Saying that nothing wrong with simply fancying a change of boat, however you rationalise it...

If you are just cruising and pottering then the Mirage seems a perfectly sensible boat. Single handed sailing is more about the way the boat is set up than size. The Jouet is a light displacement sporty boat with half the displacement, lifting keel and outboard. Will be faster and more exciting to sail. While it is smaller it is not really downsizing - just a different kind of boat!
