Jotun Seaguardian report 12 months on

Just slipped the boat after 12 months with Jotun Seauardian. It's a slow S/D boat and we travel at 8-11 knots, marina moored Solent. Gave her 2 good coats a year ago. Main part of the hull was evenly slimed but no growth whatsoever. However in high wear areas like the trim tabs it had completely eroded away and there was a lot of mixed growth including some kelp. Also patches on the hull where the pressure washer had taken it off completely - especially along the waterline. Recoated the tabs, the waterline and patches and put her back in as it is supposed to be a 3 yr treatment we shall see. Conclusion - highly effective, good value even if it only last a year but very soft and erodes possibly too quickly.

I agree, I've used SeaGuardian for the last 3 years on a sailing boat on the East Coast and found it excellent, althougth I only put on one coat and when slipped only has slime and a few barnacles around the prop & shaft.

I was planning to use Seaguardian but managed to get 20 litres of Hempel Internic on ebay (£117 incl del.!) Good to know Seaguardian works well though as I will probably use it in the future.
From my 'research' into getting a value for money a/f (not swindlery prices), I took interest in the '3 year protection' of Seaguardian and similar products. My conclusion is that all these products are targetted at commercial deepsea shipping. Somewhere in all the blurb you will find usage quoted as something like 10 -15 knots and 10 months or so underway at sea per year. A yacht moored and stationary for say 10 months will foul much quicker. Unless anyone knows different /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Sea Guardian no longer available now called Seaforce 30, Having used Jotun for many years should be as good.

They probably changed the name to Seaforce 30 as they say is will last for 2 to 3 years which is about 30 months in my books otherwise they would possibly have called it "Seaforce 36"?

I was told they had reduced the copper content because of its high cost (obviously it was in the pipe line before the recession) and increased the biocide.So its not the same.Time will tell,lets hope its good news.

Seaforce 30 is much thinner than Seaguardian. It is also not so heavy in the cans.

I have just applied one coat of Seaguardian left over from last year and one coat of Seaforce 30. I have put some Seaguardian where the pads were after the props were moved so it will be interesting next year to see if there is any difference in performance.

I would be very surprised if Jotun have replaced Seaguardian with something not as good but time will tell.
