Jotun paint

Jotun 2 pack paint - I was wondering could I use it as single pack ie. without the additive? Have done a sample on piece of timber and metal and seems to dry within a couple of hours and goes off very hard. Anyone with any experience of this? Thanks

Are you sure it's 2-pack, did you check the data sheet?
I'm interested, as I have some old Jotun paint, still liquid and unopened, with all the labels missing.

It will wash off with acetone and other less severe cleaners. When I am colour matching for spraying I omit the hardener and then wipe off the paint.

I'm wondering why you'd want to risk it, if it's two pack why not simply use it as intended?

As others have suggested, without the second component (hardener) the paint may appear to dry, as the solvents evaporate. But it won’t cure. It could be wiped off by more solvent (or even by water).

Therefore, I cannot see why you’d try this, as opposed to just getting an equivalent single pack paint if that’s what you need.

Yes definitely 2 pack as i ordered this for another project but only ended up using half of it.

Only because you can’t put 2 pack over single pack paint as there will be a chemical reaction and will make the single pack jelly. Thanks

OK thanks I was just trying to use it up that’s all. Just seems a waste otherwise!

As im sure you already know a small amount mixed up goes a long way .. So i was left wondering what i could do with unused mix.. I had the hardtop hb which is around £54 for 5 litres.
I decided to take the gamble and paint over some white oil paint coated ply.. Didnt even degrease or rub it down.. 5 years later and its still firmly stuck and had zero reaction with the dulux, albany and leyland paint i has previously used.. Its like the paint self etches onto whatever you paint, so i would suggest mix a small amount and put it to the test !

The hardener has a pretty unique smell.. its quite addictive and it smells exactly the same as sikaflex primer which im told is around £90 for 1 litre.. the jotun is £12..
Would love to know if it is the same as it certainly acts the same and dries on its own quite quickly.
