Re-opened circa 4 weeks ago, is just ain't the same, although it could have been a lot worse. Bar food was good quality but very pricy, £10.90ish for cod & chips, when there is an absolutely excellent chippy just a mile away.

Interestingly, one of Phoney Blairs 'New Britons' without whom the Country just cannot survive, was doing a good line in exchanging little plastic packages for handfuls of cash - no doubt we citizens will all benefit from the tax such commerce generates!!

Disappointing 'meal' there on Saturday evening; unimaginative menu, poor value at £7 + for a couple of slices of ham and a small portion of chips.

Yep, the Jolly Sailor on the Hamble, ruined by that 'high value' tv series, Howards Way. The pub was once the haunt of proper sailors, but now populated with people who seem to have more money than sense.

Re: Whisper

Yeah, it's the Solent - really busy, but not a sock knitter in sight. Not a patch on the Leicester pubs though. Having a mooring right outside a Hamble pub is a mixed blessing - but someone has to do it!.

Re: Whisper

Not sure there are any sock knitters left in Leics. any more - think they are all made in the Far East nowadays. I know where to get you knicker elastic though. Mind you, our heritage is still remembered. In Loughborough we have a new & important sculpture in the Market Place - its of a man? holding out his foot to put a sock on /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif. Probably was paid for by our Community Charge.
