Joining larger electrical cables

I'm installing a sterling Alternator to Battry charger and need to extend the fitted cable (which is only about a foot long) the cable is too large for the usual butt connectors that you can purchase anywhere so what is best connector to use?

Replace it with a longer one.

Butt connector and separate heavy heat shrink, both available for up to 95mm2 off the shelf mail order, or better yet just replace the entire cable. Just one example below.

That was my first thought but it's a very strange set up. It's the only wire supplied attached - everything is proper stud connectors and instructions specifically state to splice to anther piece of cable. I'm reluctant to open up the case where the return is if I can do it well another way.

If you have to do it, take it to an auto electrician who will have the right wire and crimps, and the right equipment to do the job properly. You can also tell him what kind of fitting you want on the other end of the wire. It shouldn't cost more than a very few beer tokens and it will be a better job than you'll ever be able to do without the right tools.

I used crimped ring terminals and terminal studs protected by a junction box. Means I can disconnect it easily if I need to take the A to B charger out for repair or any other reason.

Did think of doing that, but wasn't sure it was the best joint. It does seem very odd that all other connections on the unit have a nice stud. It's just that one that has a pointless tail of wire on it!
