Hi can anyone please help , I have a 1974 Johnson 4 hp outboard and I need some piston rings ( this engine had been in a garage for 40 yrs it was seized and I have managed to remove the pistons but broke a ring while trying to free it ) I have found some pistons for sale but they are from a 1997 engine , does anyone know if they will fit. They are complete with con rods crank shaft and block, but can I use them or any part of them, thanks. Kieron

All the part numbers are different so I guess the answer is probably , "No".

Contact Outboards-Direct (aka Oakley Marine) in Brighton. Maybe able to suggest a solution

You will be lucky to get new old stock parts. You may be better buying a spares or repair engine with good compression then swap the powerhead

Why not take your piston to a motor-cycle shop and/or an engineering shop that does rebores and ask them if they can source a piston-ring (or two) which would fit? Even one that is a bit too large diameter-wise, but ok for fitting in the groove could be ground down to fit.

If it is the twin with no gears, then I have one in the shed.... Prob is where my shed is.. If you get desperate PM me

Just looked: Mod No. LD 13M
