I buy what few parts I need from Oakley Marine ( aka Outboards direct) in Brighton ........... http://www.outboards-direct.co.uk/ ........ but I am not sure what you mean by a timing fixture plate. Armature plate ? if so its obsolete.

Bill Higham Marine ..... http://billhigham.co.uk/ .... is I believe a good source of second hand parts

Crossed my mind that your fuel pump diaphragm might be punctured. I f you dismantle it make sure you record exactly how everything is fitted together as you go.

Some info on fuel pumps on LeeRoy's ramblings. ..........http://www.leeroysramblings.com/Outboard Motor Related/OMC outboard related articles.html

hi vicS, is that thous or mills as i have a metric feelers and 0.30 seems a bit of a small gap, if its thous i will get a different set of feelers thanx paul.

0.030" = 30/1000 inch.

You can convert to mm if you only have metric feelers.

hi thanx tk all done on that part now, would you know anyone in the surrey area that will take a look at my engine coz its still a pig to start thanx paul.

hi vicS, would you happen to know where i can get 2 fibre washers that fit over the fast / slow spindle, on the johnson 20hp 1967 carb, or even if you could give me measurements i could make them, but what are they made of , thanx paul.

If you mean the packing washers on the idle mixture adjustment needle (#35 in the parts diagram at http://www.marineengine.com/parts/j...manufacturer=Johnson&section=Carburetor+Group) I'd think Oakley marine ( link given earlier) would be able to help as the same washers have been used on many Evinrude and Johnson models from 1957 right through to 2001.

If those washers are cream crackered it might explain the starting problems.

Take care with that needle though as it is NLA as a replacement part

hi, thanx for that vicS, i now know where i can get parts , i have had the engine runing without any washers in there at all,
but will get some and get them in, thanx paul.

hi vicS, would you know the setting of the flow/fast screw, i have been told it 2 1/2 turns out from fully turned in ???? thanx vic

I assume you are talking about the slow speed mixture adjustment needle. Initial setting is I beleive 1½ out from seated but it is only a basic setting which you then adjust when it is running.

For details of the carb setting procedure see Joe Reeves Instructions on the Engine FAQs board at iBoats:
http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...sorted-carb-variations-by-joe-reeves?t=167352

While you are there check the FAQs board for other useful topics. Also the "TopSecret File" which is a "sticky" on the Johnson- Evinrude board

See also the manual at: http://boatinfo.no/lib/evinrude/manuals/1956-1970johnsonevinrude.html#/0
