It is with a heavy heart I was informed early this morning that John has passed away. I sailed with and against John for many years with many happy memories.

He suffered from Cancer and was still working in his pub until last week, aged 62.

I am sure that I am not alone in passing the family my condolences and best wishes. He will long be remembered for his sailing abilities and as a sarcastic ribald publican.

R.I.P. John, you will be missed.

I only saw him last week.

A sad loss to Burnham.

His sharp, dry wit will be long remembered, and much missed.

Customer 1: ''Can I have a nice white wine, please''.

John: ''You'd better try The Anchor''.

Customer 2: "A packet of salt'n vinegar crisps, please".

John: "this isn't a bistro".

Another example of John.
I was carrying my toddler grand daughter out from the family room and stopped to chat by the bar.
John gave me one of his looks, "no kids in the bar"
Me "Come on Katie, you've just been chucked out of your first pub"
John " I don't expect it will be the last time though"

Yes ... John's 'look' is a local legend.

Good Squib helm, damn good crew in the old half ton class, never a dull moment when he was around. He ended up with a Hunter 707 when there was a fleet at Burnham.
