In the hope of finding something I could afford I consulted the boats for sale section &, as one of the parameters, selected Europe as the area from which craft should be displayed. A noticeable number were in Turkey; should I buy a new atlas?

For Marketing purposes Turkey is in Europe not Asia Minor. Similarly the Post Office say I am in Berkshire but I pay my rates to S.Oxfordshire... go figure /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Istanbul is in europe. well half of it anyway. Would not be fair to kick it out just cos some of it is in Asia.

They are trying to join the EEC! so I guess theyr'e europe now, although I always thought Asia Minor started at the bosphorous. (the eastern side)

Me thinks...Istanbul is where East meets West = 1/2 and half.

Isn't Heathrow area covered by 5 authorities? Greedy gits , just after the rates , no wonder airfares so high...

I am WHAT I say I am

Turkey starts about a 100 miles in europe then you come to Istanbul which is on each side of the Bos-for-us??? Where there is a big bridge. Before the days of the bridge about 1973'ish There was a ferry well there still is last I new. At the Asian side it stops just outside the Harem hotel. The authorities closed it down for a while due to the strange goings on in the night, but also in the day. They wernt doing anything wrong. Just not licenced for that sort of thing. I've stayed there a couple of times or three. But they were on there best behaviour then!!

DUH! Didn't you know the Pharoes were Greeks? One of Alexander the Great's Generals founded an entire dynasty. The Arabs didn't exist then either so go tell Pythagorus about him nicking his theory. Ask the Romans what currency they used while you are about it.

The pharohs were greeks! OK, but I didn't mention the romans. But if the pharohs were greeks, why did they stay in a shithole like egypt, when they had a wonderful country over the water? Also which dynasty would that be, the egyptians go back a long way, in fact an awful long way over many dynasties! So do the arabs, although only as nomadic tribes. Long before the israelites etc.

I am distressed; a seerioos question & you start talking of romans & egyptians. Much more of this & I shall join mack & throw the bottle of s.......n out of my pram.

This an architypical example of Fred Drift. Something that has existed since the Greeks invented the first Computer by sticking their hands in the air and counting on their fingers /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
PS Don't throw the Soltron away its too pricey, chuck whiskey out its cheaper by far.
