Re: Joe public\'s view of sailing?
>>>Seriously though, it is all too often that a select few spoil it for the rest. It has been my experience that the vast majority of the sailing fraternity are all to eager to help someone who obviously needs help. Yet an old guard is still intent in disuading new comers. "Don't go down there. Their be owls down there!"<<<
There's definitely an Old Guard in yacht clubs who hate any opening of the sport to all-comers. I've spent too much of my life on yacht club committees fighting them. Mind you the jargon in YC's is enough to blow most prople's minds: How would you feel if you joined a football club and discovered the head honchos were the Corporal-Bombadier; the Fusilier-Private and the Sergeant-Subaltern! Wild or what?
Even Chay Blyth felt his knees knock the first time he visited a yacht club.
