I am looking to quit the rat race and seek employment in the marine and leisure industry, Marina, Sales anything considered. Is there a particular publication or web site where such vacancies are advertised ?
Does anyone know of any ?

Try the BMIF web site. But I must warn you once you work with boats you wont be able to stop it is highly addictive.

Re: Different race, different rats. nm

Exactly this happened to me years ago, when motorbikes were my thing. I worked as a despatch rider, being paid to drive about on a fabulous motorbike. Later, with friends, they invited me to come along for a ride one Sunday. It started raining. I comforted my self by working out the rate per mile, and how far to our destination..but realised I wasn't getting paid, and turned around.

A cautionary tale from The Fruitbat\'s career

Hi Mick

I used to work in a library 'cos I like books. Only problem was the bloody readers, who would come along and argue black was white for the sake of a 20p fine which was going into the book fund anyway. And keep interrupting me when I was trying to do repairs. And messing up the lovely tidy shelves. And wanting to borrow the books, damn them!

Moral of this tale: If you want to go anywhere near the sales or leisure industries, make sure you want to work with people too.

Best of luck for the future - I became self-employed to beat the rat-race and it was the best thing I ever did, job wise (except for the fact that I used to work excessively - and now I work twice as hard as that). Go for it - too many people don't, then sit there complaining that their lives are hopeless.

Re: LAISMUCS

As LAISMUCS just laid off 800(?) or so recently, you might find there are VERY few jobs to be had. However, Crest Nicholson Marinas are growing fast - I just hope your rat race pays more than the average marina chain.
