I'm aware that many French single-handers use a form of 'Jetboil' which is gimbal-mounted. I'm interested, but can find no information other than the JetBoil site pics - which are focussed on the camping/climbing/backpacking market. i.e. no need for gimbals.

Can anyone point me towards a supplier of 'marinised' JetBoils and/or pics of such in action, showing the gimbal/suspension mechanism?

Googling “gimballed jetboil” gets me numerous videos and a selection of blog posts and suchlike. The only actual supplier (at least on the first page of google hits, I didn’t bother looking any further) was this one.

This US boatbuilder has their own system but there’s no indication that it’s available separately from the boat.

EDIT: I’ve watched one of Safire’s videos now, the one with it mounted to a bit of plywood. It looks to me like it’s swinging around more than it should, and that’s without any water in the pot. A full jetboil is inherently top-heavy and I reckon the pivots ought to be a bit higher - halfway up the pot ought to minimise its motion, I think that’s normal for yacht stove gimbals.

It’s not rocket science to cut out and bend the necessary bits of sheet metal to make a diy version with the pivots in the right place, albeit it wouldn’t be as beautiful as Safire’s CAD-cut version.

If you want a really good gas burner complete with cylinder I recommend the Ridge Monkey one. You would have to make some gimbals which might preclude it- but not for some reading this post who might just want a simple burner. the advantage is that you can very quickly buddy another burner to it with a snap coupling.

I also recommend the Ridge monkey pans, of which there are 3 types. they are great in that they have tops, can be flipped over, can be used as 2 pans & the largest pan can be used to make main meal with ease. I use the smallest one, but the mid size XL is probably the most useful. They all work on the stove. If you want to keep things simple I think these save cooking utensils etc. If one does not buy the cooker, the pan is well worth a look
Worth looking at the wide range of recipes all from one pan on you tube- Not just toasties

I used one. It boils so fast it is no trouble to hold it in your hand for a minute or so. I thought about making gimbals for it, but it just wasn't with it.

If you really want gimbals, I would probably bodge something up with a wire coat hanger or two near the top of the pot.

Jetboil I think do a hanging kit. You could always hang it from the boom.

As I looked at an old video (start at 45s) I recall that it comes with an insulated cover, with some loops. Anyone who wanted to make a gimbal could just run some thin cord around the top of the pot (through the loops) and suspend it.

But as I say, I never used gimbals, and I fired it up two or three times per day for a month - just holding it in my hand. It boils so fast.
