Jet2.com - Extra Charges Per Bag!!!

Just to let people know - booked a jet2 flight to Portugal today and reached a point in the booking where it added a charge of £6 each way for 1 checked bag, i.e. £12 return. In 8 months of using Jet2, this has not happened before.

Still booked it, (still competitive for the dates we want and the flight times are the most civilised I have ever experienced), but was extremely cheesed off. I understand why they dont make these things clear in the main page, (but I wish they would!).

So an advertised £39 flight from manchester to faro actually costs £66, and the return advertised £59 flight actually costs £81, (including charges, taxes and 1 piece of baggage).

At least thay dont start you off with 9 pieces of baggage, which is what we read on a thread about another airline a few months ago.

On The Money Programme today, it was suggested that we were in a "Golden Era" of cheap air travel, and that charges will be increased substantially over the years, for one reason or another. They are probably right.

Flight £10.99 + tax de dah de dah de dah £59 return!
+ Bags in hold for SWMBO, + 5 Euros for a cup of cha on the way(dunno if that,s true just guessing) but still Cheap as Chips! at £69 ish.
Cheap as Chips? dunno about that anymore.
Thursday night in the Sticks in Wales.

Same deal, H Ramsdens Motorway Services Scoff the other Day £28.50, for two on both occasions, by the way.
Flight is Cheap as Chips right now, I reckon!

Had contract recently tthat required flying to Malta. Owner suggested we fly RyanAir as cheap flight!!!!!!!!!
Looked on Internet RyanAir flight to Malta £14.99 Few days later money in my account again look on Internet, same flight now £32.99. As I live only a few miles from Stansted and had to go there anyway I walked up to the RyanAir Ticket desk and was now charged £58. £20 surcharge because I went to their ticket desk!!!!! 2 pax traveling. also charged £10 per bag for each bag we're checking in!
Get to Luton on the day of the flight and we're now charged a further £88 for excess baggage fee. £5.50 per kilo. I'm told this is the most expensive charge in the whole of the airline industry. Aircraft was freezing cold. No pillows, no blanket. Very expensive food- £1.70 for a cup of tea!! On top of this after arrival we find they've refused to fly one bag as they found the gas cylinder in a lifejacket. By the time we got to Malta these so-called Cheap flights had cost £255.00 and a great deal of trouble.
Nine days later we flew home by Air Malta. £124.00 per person. Absolutely no hassle about the same bags. Beautiful clean, smart aircraft with great service. Three course meal with wine - Free! Why fly RyanAir? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes.... our daughter flew out to Athens with EasyJet last week to join us and because she had her guitar, which is classed as an extra piece of luggage, we paid the extra for it.....
One item of luggage is allowed to be checked in and £10 extra for every other bag (though only £5 extra if you book on line and pay for it at that time)..... though restrictions on handluggage weight have been relaxed.

ALWAYS shop around before choosing Ryanair, Jet2 or any other 'budget airline'. We have to go to Italy very frequently for family reasons and can choose from BA, Ryanair or Easyjet for our particular route to Turin. We often find that BA.com is competitive on price with the two budget airlines, and there's no comparison when it comes to boarding arrangements and comfort in flight.

I have even had occaisons - admittedly rare - on which I could upgrade us (two adults, two small kids) to Club on BA.com and STILL save money as against Ryanair.

Also, check comparative baggage allowances. BA remained more generous than Easyjet or Ryanair, last time I checked.

Agreed! I regularly check BA, (GB Airways), but their Manchester - Faro changes at Gatwick and cant compete.

For Malta BA seem competitve, and my sister has already booked to come and see us in February next year - hope we are there!

My wife has found exactly the same thing flying off to see her parents in the Canaries. Uses BA scheduled by choice every time - a shade more expensive but much more comfortable with good service.
