Jet Ski *******ing - your thoughts.

CY,

if you think the behaviour shown in Dylans' video is 'just people enjoying the freedoms we all do' then you should see someone for help !

I take it you and yours don't ever use a tender to get to & from a mooring - or anchorage - or if this lot turned up you'd be overjoyed.

Or if you swim at the mooring as people regularly do. I have had to take evasive action whilst swimming.

There was forgive the pun, an "ocean" of difference between DWs clip and the one at the head of this thread.

Ps. RNLI boats have zero authority, and RNLI policy strictly limits who can be on board an RNLI craft. Our local RNLI training co-ordinator is not even allowed on board the Atlantic as he is not trained crew!

I take your point Froggie, but I have seen police aboard RNLI vessels, so what gives there then? Also, I have been aboard the Appledore Lifeboat for a spin around the bay, when they have had an open day.

What puzzles me a bit, is that this jet ski thing has been going on for years, yet nobody seems willing or able to get it sorted. My own view is that they look like great fun, but I just wish that somehow the right messages could be driven home about where and when it is appropriate to use them.

These things are not cheap to buy by any means, so that would seem to suggest that they are not bought by a bunch of hooligans from the local council sink estates, ok yes, having a few bob doesn't preclude people being absolute dickheads, but generally speaking I would expect that having a few bob should mean that they might have certain standards of behaviour?

I think it's a policy with much local..err..variation lol. Also, the risk assessment for an all weather boat i obviously very different to an ILB, due to the much lesser chance of an untrained person ending up in the water.

It may also have been that the police officer you saw was also crew in their off duty time.

I don't want to labour the point, but no, the police I have seen on our local ILB have been with the crews to apprehend a tealeaf that had been going around the local moored boats helping himself. I know our local police do not have a boat of their own, (more's the pity), so maybe they have "an arrangement" with the local RNLI?

I suppose it's a bit like the minority of road user loons, been around since wheels invented and probably always will, unfortunately. But I've stopped getting myself wound up about it anymore. Decided I'm going to enjoy chilling out when I can irrespective of the odd hicup. :)

Jet skis

Some years ago in a secluded anchorage,we were being harassed by a jet ski. The owner of the boat eventually called him over, when he came along side he emptied the contents of the tea pot over him and told him to B*****of.
He was so surprised, and just left.

I have often thought that one of the few advantages of the high price of gasoline in Europe is fewer jet skis. In the video in the introductory post for this thread, I see a lone jet skier. On this side of the Atlantic, we often see swarms of them.

I'm afraid that's exactly what it is, people on sink estates can't make the places respectable or thief / hoodie vandal proof to the rest of the community, but they seem to manage buying Subaru turbo nutter cars and jetskis...

Youngsters with a brain will read up on people like Sir Francis Chichester, Miles & Beryl Smeeton etc; I did, with no prompting or family background in sailing.

I do think modern education has a lot to answer for, I went out with a teacher and was frankly unimpressed by her take on what makes education, £ signs teaching slightly abroad and long holidays for her seemed the main driver !
