Hi all,

I have today been able to secure third party insurance for my boat to cover me in next years Jester Challenge UK - Azores and afterwards across to Gibraltar and back to UK.

The quote for my boat - Colvic Atlanta 31' is £232.00

If anybody else is interested I suggest you give the following person a call:

Renny Gold, Euromarine Insurance Services Ltd., Broadstairs, Kent. 01843 603345

I have told him I was very pleased with his quote and that he might get a few more calls !!

No connection other than as a customer.

Isn't the risk of third party damage likely to be much less for such a trip than, for example, keeping/operating the boat in a marina?

Or does it include 3rd party costs such as recovering it from the bottom etc?

That doesn't sound unreasonable for third party coverage, but it doesn't really help you much if you damage or lose your own boat.
In a race like the Jester (or indeed any singlehanded race) the insurers aren't taking on a huge risk by offering third party coverage.

Sorry to divert slightly, and just to satisfy my curiosity, what would fully comprehensive insurance cost for such a boat participating in this challenge?

Lots. For full coverage for the Mini Transat I just got quoted about 6% of the cost of the boat. And that is only available because the class association negotiated with a bunch of insurers, only one of which would offer coverage.

That is a good price. I think the Jester challenge boys have a good reputation for being gentlemen. And its not a a race!! In the 2005 OSTAR there were 3 collisions between the start and the breakwater!! iifc One insurer ahad made a loss on the race within 30 minutes of the start all on 3rd party claims. This affected his view of the 2009 event.

The big thing is, when do you return to full comp, if at all. When in The marina, after returning home to UK, tied on to own mooring? When fully crewed.
