Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any views re the return trip? I hope to come back via Gibraltar, does anybody else fancy that detour?

Im hopeing to do the 2012 but still at the working it out stage and as I would be looking to leave from la Rochelle rounding up to plymouth then across to the azores, then one of my return routes would be heading Lisbon way then coastal back to La Rochelle as I said would depend on time and if I dont flounder someware between lol

I'm considering going first to Tangier, then Gibralter before making my way back up the coast. That's of course on the basis that I make it to the Azores first...

I'm tentatively looking at 2016, but time off work will be an issue so it may well be a direct passage back! Always assuming a succesful trip there of course.

Haven't sailed there myself, but the prevailing winds off the coast of Portugal are northerlies. I have a boat in the Med atm, and as far as I can make out the best option for me heading north is going Gibraltar-Azores-UK. One option you could look at ia sailing through Gobraltar, up the Spanish coast and through Canal Midi from around Sete to Bordeaux. Lovely trip, the canal takes atleast a week but a couple makes it a lot more enjoyable.
