im off to jersey by air on the 13th dec for 3 days with some friends staying at the queens hotel in St Heli, not ever been there is there anything to do or anything i should see while there.

Well given that some about thi ssite live there , I'll let them sing the praisesof their own island... however IF they don't supply the names of some of the best boozers anywhere then I'll supply them...

. If you are interested in military history it's worth getting hold of one of the books about Jersey in WW2 when you're there and tracing some of the places mentioned...and pub crawl at same time.

..also an ex-girlfriend but that's another story as she may be married now..

German Underground Hospital; St Catherine's, Archirondel and Gorey on the east Coast; Jersey Pottery if you like that sort of thing. Really excellent huge chandlery at South Pier on the Eastern side of the harbour....

Pomme D'or for their lunch buffet / carvery. Good evening meal at the Grand Hotel, or if you realy want to spend money, at the highly rated Longueville Manor Hotel to the North east of St Helier.

Etc, etc....

OK, some poor resident of Jersey has to put in a pennyworth, but at the risk of you being seriosly disappointed can't you cancel for now and come back in the summer? The weather has been crap for weeks and it's cold, wet and windy, and you're not staying in a particularly brilliant hotel. You'll probably be best to hire a car, at least you can go round the outside of the island and see some of the stunning scenery, especially recommended are the cliffs on the north coast, with little harbours like Bonne Nuit and Rozel, and Corbiere headland with it's lighthouse, and the cliffs arounfd Beauport and Portelet for the southerly beaches and views.
There are loads of really good restaurants, from cheap to mega expensive. Try the Old Courthouse in St. Aubins - very pretty harbour and good pub with restaurant above. I'd stay out of St. Helier on Fri/Sat evenings - rampaging drunks and pubs so crowded you'll never get in (unless that's your idea of fun!) There's a huge pub in St Helier called Chambers that has live music most nights and stays open late, and just down the road towards the bus station a dark atmospheric real ale pub called the Lamplighter.
While you're here it's the Fete de Noue which is the build up to Xmas with various markets, street-theatre etc, but nothing beats coming here on a hot sunny day with all the beaches to explore! If you're in St. Aubin's one evening and go in the pub called the Tenby you'll be sure to find Rich from this forum - just ask the bar-staff!

You could also look for the resident species of toad its called the crappeaud (pronnounced Crappo) ;-)

Re: Guernsey? Pah!

About time too! What about Herm, or do you still have to stock up before you order a meal in the White House carvery?

Re: Guernsey? Pah!

Yeah but Herm is the same sort of size as the Ecrehou and has much better service :-) he he

Nothing like a bit of crappeaud v Donkey on a sunday night.

We went for 2 nights in June, stayed at the Pomme D'or. They had a Sea food extravaganza where you could have a smuch as you wanted for £18, excellent. One of my other postings has info attached to it as well. The tourist sites have been mentioned elsewhere, plan to do them all. The war history is the interesting thing about the island, shopping is ok but not cheap. There is a good nightclub a few doors down from the Pomme D'or.

Won't be going back unless it is by yacht.
