Jeppesen C-Map for Android

Hi Ravi, wasn't aware you needed Greece, so why not look at Open sea, it seems to have most of the world, best of all, perhaps, is that it is free, works on android and apple, just Google it.

Hi Jon, I am not sure what you mean. I found openseamap.org but the site says that the "water depth" feature is "in beta". The "marine traffic" functionality works so it shows where the big ships are but the important stuff (depths) doesn't work. so, it just seems to be a land based thing - at the minute.

Do yo mean OpenSeaMap - or something else?

As I said in an earlier post, i am trying to put together a bit of a wiki on the subject. I will add openseamap.org to the content.

TBH - I am a bit reluctant to put my 'dummies guide to chartplotting' on the wiki because, although I intend it as a basic guide for the community to update, I am aware that I will get flamed from all angles for my technical ignorance and omissions!

Worth checking out if you don't feel like updating your Navionics maps, or if you prefer C-Map.

Sounds like the death-knell for dedicated chart-plotters!!

I've found even Jeppesen Ed II more accurate than Navionics cartridges.
 
Sorry to thread hijack, but I have noticed that many of you are using android instead of apple ios.

I am using an older Motorola xoom tablet, which seems to run Naxionics very well without any crashing. I was going to use this onboard, but I cant find a waterproof case as all the ones I find are for apple devices. I dont really want to go and but an ipad. Does anyone know where I can find a waterproof case which will still allow me to use the touch screen? Or do many of you not bother with cases for your devices?

I have a zoom and use it on-board in a Proporta Beachbuoy. 100% waterproof and is si to a couple of metres if it does go o/b!

I don't bother with a waterproof case, but then I'm in the sub-tropics. That doesn't help in squalls, of course, but then I only use my tablet for close-proximity navigation (entering/leaving ports/harbours/anchorages).
 
Thanks for that, the Proporta looks really good. Ill be getting one of those. Do you find the touchscreen is ok with it?

I think I am best getting one for the irish sea. :-)

Absolutely fine with the touchscreen.............and the Irish Sea that is where I've used mine!!
 
Another vote for the Xoom 10'', mine running Memory Map. If it broke I'd buy another.

It has a really good, screen protecting, flip case which I'm loath to lose to decant it into a wproof case- any suggestions, water proofing AND screen protection against knocks?

Well, I have now bought and installed Plan2nav. After contacting the suppliers I would have to buy the charts twice if I wanted them on my Android phone as well as my iPad, so I chose the Apple version, for the bigger iPad screen and if necessary for my still functional but scratched iPhone. After an installation glitch, fixed after a couple of helpful emails, I think it is going to be a good all round charting package. The charts are nowhere dear as detailed as those on my other favourite app, however the latest version of UKIrelandHD is so detailed that panning and zooming are now rather slow. Also Plan2nav is supposed to offer route planning (I haven't played with it yet) whereas UKIrelandHD does not.
The charts on Plan2nav seem to have as much detail as on the Imray charts but it looks much better to use than Imray, as the charts are blended into on large charts, unlike Imray where you have to keep moving from chart to chart. Plan2nav seems to be the closest IOS app to using Seapro on a laptop. I am looking forward to trying it out for real.
