JEFA Rudder stock - Clyde area

Anybody had a JEFA rudder stock dropped and bearings replaced in the Clyde area ? If so,
- any recommendations for who to do this (or not!) ?
- any views on rough costs?

Again, posted in Scuttlebutt rather than PBO, as I don't have the strength or agility to do the job on my own.

Jefa have a considerable library of illustrated 'how to' pages for nearly everything they make, if you can not find it on their website talk to them and they will send you details, then take it to whoever you choose to do the job.
If you are ever bored a study of Jefas engineering information details can be an interesting way to spend an hour.

Did it DIY about 7/8 years ago in a Hanse 370 and as I recall it’s just basic engineering
the boat was later sold and Survey suggested replacing the complete rudder due to water line corrosion how we negotiated a resleeve kit be fitted by the fibre glass people at Kip
the had more than one in hand at the time
unfortunately the buyer lost all his Brownie points with us and I don’t know the outcome
thinking back i recall getting the retaining screws out the top bearing housing being some what fraught

Thanks. Seen the JEFA stuff. But it is the boat specific stuff about what is needed to be dismantled to drop the rudder, as well as usual access challenges.
Plus looks quite heavy so needs more than one person, prob 3 (one to release at top plus two below?). Also deep rudder so suspect needs hoist to lift further to extract blade and post.
Not having the manpower or lift, hence looking for suggestions for people on Clyde with this experience to do tje jobm

Do you use appropriate antifoul on the area around the stock and bearing? I use Trilux.

I do - but I think that was a fairly recent recommendation. Certainly wasn’t how the boats left the factory, or done by the first owner.

As I recall you could see corrosion was there without drawing the stock
have a word with meadow side marine 0771 368 2548 who did our job

31 ft boat with a 1.650 long rudder blade + stock
I had a new jefra rudder & bearings ( top & bottom) fitted by Caley marina who undertook the work at Inverness marina ( which they own)
Obviously this is too far away from you, but the point is that 3 operatives put the boat in a travel hoist, Took a bit of juggling to get the height, ( actually it had already been lifted as the rudder had been damaged), dropped the old rudder & put the new one in complete with replacement bearings & a new neoprene cover to the shaft, plus bushe etc. plus a bit of extra machining to the shaft ( which I did, as they did not want to, as the shaft did not quite fit & they were worried about messing it up)
It took the 3 of them 1.5 hours. 2 could have done it, but they sent 3 from the other marina to be sure.
On top of that was the time to re launch , but I had the fenders etc all rigged ready, so it did not take long.

It is not hard to do & quite honestly, if one were to hire the use of the travel hoist for , say 2-3 hours & had a couple of friends handy then one could do it easily. One just needs to have the spanners etc ready & examine what is needed & then get on with it. Have ladders etc all ready to set up, be organised have some timber to raise the blade with & not wander about like lost sheep.
