Well, did the sea trial on Monday. As said earlier, she does handle like a big dinghy. Am now looking forward to taking her home.

Simon Jinks did a report in the August 2001 Yachting Monthly on the Sunshine. Unfortunately I left it at home so can't give you all the details of the origin. From memory, Simon reported that the Sunshine was indeed based on a one tonner from the early 80s. Sunshines had success in the Route de Rhum, and there was one in the ARC 2001.

Just found the YM report so can remind you.

Tony Castro, Justine 111 One Ton Cup winner 1981. Launched by Jeanneau as a production cruiser racer 1983 and then took first and second places in their class in the Route Du Rhum, single handed transatlantic race.

'Big dinghy' describes the delightful handling rather than the sea keeping ability!

Yes, you're right. I do mean that she handled easily. The wind never got above F3 so I can't say personally about sea keeping yet. But if they can make it across the Atlantic then I'm sure they'll manage the cross channel sailing I'll be doing!

BTW, Do you know Sun Legend cocktail receipe ? I found it, browsing through old advertissements from Jeanneau : Curaçao 1/5, Mango 1/10, Pineapple 1/10, Coco liqueur 1/5, Vodka 2/5. Cheers !
Sorry George, there's no receipe for Sun Shine, but she's a good cocktail by herself...

What though is Coco liqueur, Tia Maria? Is that pineapple juice and mango juice do you know, I've never seen mango juice? It sounds like a potent mixture, just like our boat!

Well, no more infos on the cocktail but there's a picture : it's pale blue so I think Vodka, Curaçao and Coco Spirits are the main ingrédients. Fruit-juices are there to sweeten the potent mixture, we have a Tropicana mix : Pineapple + Mango + Orange in France...

Powerful like Sun Legend : back in the 80's my first job as charter-skipper was with one, I was surprised with full sails up and a strong easterly on the hip and I must say that I was looking for the brakes !

Sun Legende Brakes -What Brakes?

I have yet to find the brakes on a Sun Legende! We did Cherbourg to Poole last year with SW7 (actually for 4 hours it was SW8), and until the tide turned into the wind we carried full sail. Once the tide turned though the autopilot wasn't reacting quickly enough sometimes to the waves, so we lay a-hull, put in 3 reefs and rolled away half the genoa. Our speed stayed exactly the same, mostly between 8kts and 9kts and we averaged over 8kts for the trip including the time taken to put in the reefs! Since then we have crossed from Cherbourg to Poole with just the genoa and no mainsail, averaging just over 7kts in SSW5, but very relaxed sailing. I should add there are just two of us on board too, she handles so easily.
