We have had a bit of a problem at the weekend which has resulted in a very bent stantion - we don't think that we can straighten it as it will fracture. Any ideas where we may be able to get one from?

If not, take off the old one and into the chandlers, they are made by the big firms, yours is probably Goiot.

I have straightened a bent stanchion. It was one of the double side gate stanchions and I could not remove it, so I made up a clamping device to grip it and bent it straight by attaching a long handle to the clamp for extra leverage. It straightened OK and the only evidence now is a slight dent.

You want to be very careful straightening a stanchion like that. Stainless will work harden when bent when cold and the next time someone falls on it....... Probably will never happen but in today's age of MAIB, health and safety etc.
If it did happen... and it broke... and someone was injured.... and you had straightened it like that...
