Hi all,

I came across this boat in a brokers that seems to be a reasonably good idea - double hulled, easily trailed and a 1997 30hp 2stroke Johnson on the back. Has anyone any experience of these boats or engines?

I'm looking for a safe boat for tootling about in around harbours.

Thanks,

Jason.

Not a lot to go on Jason, but....if the Johnson is over a couple of years old, then it will be pre-"Bombardier". Johnson, along with Evinrude went bust and were bought up by the Canadian engineering giant, Bombardier, and gazillions of improvements have been made. Engines prior to this are poor and spares are scarce, but available from breakers etc, so don't touch in my opinion. If it happens to be a new one, then fine.

Of course, it all depends on the price....

Cap 400's are in centre console and standard options, dunno which one your looking at buying Jason.
I would certainly consider having someone along with me who has some knowledge regarding outboards, or even consider having the boat surveyed, a couple of hundred quid can often be recovered off the asking price!

Thanks,

unfortunetly all my waterbourne activity has either been sailing a Westerly Centaur or cruising on the River Shannon in Hire boats - not much experience with outboards. Also, all of the people I know no nothing of outboards.

It seems a shame to have to pay money for a survey on a boat that essentially a big tuppaware dish but I had resigned myself to getting one anyway.
