Jaguar 27?

Looks a pretty good one. The engine will be near the end of it's life though.
At that age it's mostly about the condition of everything, the boat itself isn't complex.

I really liked mine. It's a basic fit out so easy to fix everything.
Sailed well. Rudder didn't break, not even in a F6.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the engine is the thing that worries us the most. We might try a lower offer, as if we had to replace it, I think we'd only be able to recuperate 50% of the cost it (including the install)

This is a Jaguar 27 in Western Samoa that was berthed next to us for a couple of weeks. Skippered by Romanian chap by himself, halfway through a circumnavigation, having set sail from Greece a couple of years ago. Not in the best condition, but she floats. There were some particularly dodgy shackles connecting the shrouds to the chainplates.

Hi, I see that Jaguar 27 is now sold. Did you end up buying it? Hope you got a good one

Yes, we did indeed. Also hoping it's a good one. We managed to motor it to the new marina without any problems. Now just waiting for the right parts to service the engine. Looking forward to getting that done and do some sailing.

Could anyone give me opinions on the above as a first yacht for 2 people to sail - are they safe boats specifically? I ask because I am likely to be singl-handing or crewed by a novice 12 year old

I am looking at a couple at the moment as a stopgap until my wife is ready to take the plunge properly and we buy something bigger in a year / two

I know they are lighter built than the sadlers etc but my wife is unlikely to be sailing much (in the UK at least) for at least a year due to impending baby - she will come out but is realistic about this which is fair enough

Also - can you lead the controls back to the cockpit? The couple I am looking at dont seem to have this - the winches are on the actual mast for the halyards etc - wondered if it would foul the larger than normal companionway hatch - and would it be v expensive to do this

Did you motor it back to the UK from Oslo?

I had one for ten years from 40 to 30 years ago. It was my first "big boat" after a 17 foot Lysander and I still love it to bits. It took me and my family cross channel numerous times when I had more faith than ability and having since done it in a larger boat I realise how seaworthy it was. At no time did I ever feel that it was anything other than totally safe and stable. A bit flimsy when you really get down to the nitty gritty but no more so than very many others I feel sure and it never caused us a problem, just be aware of what you're buying.

That's great to hear. My wife and I (plus our dog), took it out this afternoon for a sail and had a great time, getting up some nice speed. It did feel really stable. But that said, we've done limited amounts of sailing, really only on a big Hallberg Rassy, and a few other heavy duty boats.

We're hoping to get as much sailing as we can this summer. We live in Oslo, so the summers are long.

Have pm'd you back and sent 3 emails with loads of attached docs. Microsoft says your email (copied and pasted) is not recognised, so I don't know whether you've got them?

All the best,

Laurie
Hi Laurie

I’ve just purchased a Jag 27, have used wayback machine to access the very good old site but some bits not archived, could you possibly send me everything you’ve got, michaelselco@gmail.com

I'll do my best, may take a while. It would help if you could tell me if there were any specifics, or particular info, or subjects in which you were interested ?
