Hi Everyone... Newbie here, So please be gentle!!!...

I'm currently restoring a Jaguar 25 Bilge keel boat... Most things I've come across are easily replaced or sourced. However, I'm struggling to find who made the original transom hung bracket for the outboard.... It seems to be the original as there is another Jaguar 25 in the club which has the same bracket... I don't ideally want to start drilling more holes in the transom to fit a replacement... (unless I really have to)

Some things I do know... It's imperial (i.e all the nuts and bolts are old imperial)..

I'll try and upload a picture over the weekend

Thanks in advance

Tim

Hi Tim,

welcome to the forums.

Your bracket will be standard so there should be no worries about more holes; I can picture it in my mind but don't remember the make as my boat doesn't use one - someone will be along in a minute.

I expect you're aware of this but the transom will need internal reinforcing, the stuff there already should be inspected if possible, and maybe upgraded as outboards are tending to get unfortunately heavier now with 4 strokes.

Hi Tim,

I previously had a a Jag 25. Sorry can't remember who made the original, but i did replace mine. Filling and drilling holes is really no issue, but I definitely went a for a bigger size to accommodate a 6hp outboard (think it was the same block as a 9.9). I got a bit twitchy about the flex in the bracket. So I went for one which could accommodate up to 15hp and beefed up the transom internally with a backing board (3/4 inch ply) and bolted through. The bigger size comes with a bigger spring so saves the back when lifting the outboard out the water.

the builders of Jaguars are still around ! They now are trading as CYB, canvey yacht builders. they no longer build boats, but run a fibreglass supply and also
run training courses. they are nice guys and I think most were about when boat building. Give them a ring they might have the info you need. 01268 696094.

Thanks for all the replies everyone...I'll try CYB and see if they can shed any light...

Do you have a link to the forum Andy...??

The bracket is a type still widely available and you should be able to get a new one which will fit the existing fixings. However, they are easy to renovate. I did mine on a previous boat which was completely seized.
Sorry about the flaky link.

Thanks... But what make is it and where should I purchase it from??

Regards

Tim

Available from many chandlers and dealers in outboard motors.

Just google "outboard motor brackets" and you will get many suppliers. There are several different types and manufacturers so you may not get one that has exactly the same fittings as the holes in your transom, but it is not a difficult job to fill the holes and redrill to fit the bracket you buy. As suggested get one to take up to 15hp as these are usually more substantial and work better.
