Apologies if this is not the right place but I am not sure where to post a 'wanted' request.

I'm looking for a Jaguar 21 mainsail in reasonable or useable condition to replace my sagging duvet cover. Has anyone got such a thing going spare?

Luff 7.8m Foot 2.5m (apparently)

(UK only for transport cost's sake)

Thanks.

Ocean Marine at Thornham Marina, Chichester harbour - formerly Seateach - used to have secondhand sails, not sure if they do at their new place but worth a google and call.

Westaway / Exchange sails at Ivybridge near Plymouth do secondhand sails, but there has been so much bad publicity the only way I'd deal with them would be to ask first, if a sail sounded promising go and see it, measure it yourself, pay there and then and make sure the same sail goes into your car !

Is there a Jaguar Owners Association ? If so would be worth asking them.

Thanks, Ocean Marine I'll call, am nearby. Westaway I think I'll keep away.

I've asked Jaguar Owners Assoc (Yahoo Group) and we'll see.

I have been quote £600 for a new one but this is roughly a quarter of the value of the boat...it was ever thus!

In response to a couple of questions...luff (P) is 7.8m and foot (E) 2.5m. Currently bolt rope on luff and loose footed.

Granted, new sails aren't cheap, but if you are planning to own the boat for a number of years then splashing out the cash might be worthwhile, as you will be the person who gets the new shiny sail that provides the best boatspeed, least heeling, lowest maintenance, easiest handling, etc.

There is a time in a person's life when they have to bite the bullet and get a new sail. It will be worth it the first time you sail with it...

Yes, agreed...but do I spend the money on sails for the Jaguar, the Tideway or the 11 Plus?

Which one do you sail as first choice? (and how many can you sail at a time?)

I understand the dilemma having made the mistake of buying a yacht before selling it's predecessor but maybe it's time to have a 'boat cull', if you can bear to do so... Mind you, waving goodbye to the Tideway or 11+ will save you hours of painting & varnishing in the winter too.

The choice is simple.

If it is low tide in the middle of the day I sail the Jaguar which lives afloat and with a lifting keel floats in nothing.

If it is high tide in the middle of the day I sail a dinghy because it easier launching and retrieving off the beach when there is plenty of water.

Which dinghy, depends on mood.

The laws of small boats demand that any space cleared in the garage fills immediately with another old dinghy that needs to be saved.

A new sail for the Jaguar might make the biggest difference even though some of the others are original and date from the '50s.
