Not sure about over the counter jack-stays. They appear to be made to minimum sizes of 6 meters and Merit is only 5.5. Has anyone experience of fitting them?
Or for custom colour, length and ends.. try here

Does not roll under foot .... wire and rope does. Second if you go on deck with bare feet - tape is kind !!
Me - I have 100yds of high BS braided tape as available at Scouts / Charity supply depots - free of charge ... This stuff is tough ! SWL is about 2 tons ... Easy to sew, easy to seal ends .... It is not so big or cumbersome in size - so gives me sail ties, various tie-offs and eventually will provide removeable safety stays on deck. Attachment by D shackles and able to to be de-rigged when boat is idle.
You should be able to source the braided tape in rolls ... to make up yourself to best length. Stitching of ends is basically in the N + Z stitch patterns you see in Car Seat belts ... good sailmakers pre-waxed thread is best ... or carpet thread run through beeswax.

Jimmy Green chandlers will sew them to whatever length you want and provide u bolts and suitable shackles. Not the cheapest but I was very pleased with the ones they made for my Duette.
if you fancy exotic rope, 12strand dyneema hollow braid would be ok: when under foot it becomes flat, it has a much smaller diameter/dimension than webbing so probably easier to clip/unclip; uv and abrasion resistance better than nylon/polyesther webbing imho

A good tip is to slide a stainless D ring over the tape and then clip onto that. It means your lifeline runs much easier and the D ring lays flat when not in use
I get my sailmaker to make them out of doubled over webbing so they are twice as strong as most, thus not so concerned about UV damage, and they are the right length.
As posted below, since changing to webbing, I've been brought up short by the harness hook getting trapped in the webbing (and, incidentally, starting to open!).
I can see a lot of sense in using a ring on the webbing, but there is the chance that the ring will slide away from the cockpit up the side deck.
Can I suggest that you fit your jackstays inboard so that you can not fall over the side / guardrail while clipped on.
Its not very easy to achieve, but this though comes from attending a friend's funeral after he drowned while being towed in his harness attached to a jackstay.
