I am trying to replace the impeller on my Jabsco salt water pump (OM 636 engine) The pump is a 10550 and the impeller is a 1200-001. I can't get the new impeller onto the splined.shaft. It's surely not an interference fit?? I don't want to use a hammer yet. Anyone experienced this?

Check your impeller's in fact a 1210-0001. There might be some gubbinses or smirtch from the manufacturing process interfering with the splines, but a little "tough-love" with a soft mallet won't scar your pump's psyche IF the impeller's a fraction tight! Get hold of Manfred at Westfield if all else fails!

Whatever you do, don,t force it on, it should be a slideing fit.
Have a careful 'look', chech that it is indeed the correct imp. maybe dress the splines gently with a needle file, shaft and/or imp. But don,t force it on. Bill.

others have said dontforce it, completely agree.

how tight was the old one? or is your problem you cant bend the vanes over and get it on.

personally I use a cable tie to get the vanes sufficiently down for easy insertion.

Noted, Orenda, KBT & Mr B- andI agree completely- I guess you all had images of ole Adamastor smacking the thing on with a brick-bat! Sometimes there are moulding imperfections that give way when you fit the impeller. There's nothing worse than a stuck impeller, or better still, a stuck hub to get out! 'Scuse the ambiguity once again!
