Well partly solved at least! I have been in and out of our toilet more times than I care to recall.
The twist and lock used to fail every month or so. My usual solution was to remove the pump and clean or change the very bottom rubber seal which is the one that stops the water leaking back.
There seemed to be little to clean but it always seemed to work ( for a while!) I did wonder if the cone shaped plunger at the bottom of the shaft was pressing a dint in the top of the seal and thus not pressing the seal down firmly enough. On my last play session I thought I would try to extend the shaft in some way. I found that I could slightly unscrew the handle which effectively lengthened the shaft. It worked great though alter a week of use the handle was screwing itself back up and had to be screwed out again. I wonder if I could use a locknut or some loktite to keep it in place.?

Take the handle right off and drop something into the internal thread, about the size you figure will give you the depth you need. Then tighten fully.

Worth a try-it is what I would do. 4 or 5mm nut perhaps?
