My Jabsco is a manual compact with grey handle, lately I've noticed that I seem to have water in bowl after a while, that's after pumping out & leaving lever to right
Does it need a service kit?

Hi SimbaDog

It sounds like the Joker Valve has lost its shape which is easy to replace if you remove the pump it is in the exit pipe. You say you have the pump with the grey handle-if it is nearing the end you might consider the latest type with the locking handle and to my mind a more efficient pump (if you look inside you will see that they have changed the shape of the bottom of the plunger to a more purposeful shape)

It sounds like you have (at least) two parts that need to be checked and either cleaned or replaced.

As Galeus says, the Joker valve is the first part that stops outlet water from draining back into the bowl. It's the one in the exit hose connection with the 3-way split in it.

The second flap that stops water leaking back is the big flat weighted one that you will see when you remove the whole pump assembly.

It sounds like they must both be leaking... Before you buy the kit make sure you know whether your pump top has a flat or a curved front (just under the handle)... That defines which kit you need, as well as handle colour.

Note - Handles can be changed from Grey to Black and vice versa so the correct one might not necessarily be fitted.

With our two Jabscos on Rogue, I reached the point where it made more sense to buy a new pump for £60, than mess about with service kits. The self tapping screws almost never fit properly a second time, with ensuing problems.

Changing the joker valve is fine - IIRC it's secured with nuts and bolts, rather than self tappers.

Get the pump with a lock!

martin have you changed your loo pipes yet ?

I did the forward heads this last weekend... it was a day's job, 5 metres of pipe. had to take the cupboard out. as the pipe goes round a bend at the back of it, and is tie wrapped to the hull (seemed quite heavy with rubbish).

Next weeks preventative maintenance task is the rear heads pipe.

I had this problem. After dismantling the pump, it turned out it was caused by someone having dropped a stainless screw into the toilet, and it was holding the flap valve at the bottom of the pump slightly open. Removed the screw and all was well.
