Silly question I know but have you put the lever to wet bowl???.....if so may be a blockage in the inlet or your gate valve on the inlet may have failed.....i.e. when the lever is open the ball valve isnot!!

will remove inlet pipe at the weekend but there isnt even a vacume trying to build up yes i have switched the lever

I had a similar problem with mine a while ago, seemed to have been getting worse for a while, took a lot to get it going until one day nothing at all. Bought the service kit, fitted it, all worked fine again, in fact better than ever.

Isn't this the case when the rubber flap valve on the intake has taken a 'set' through being locked in the 'dry bowl' setting for a long time?

If so, try leaving the lever in the 'wet bowl' position overnight (say). Failing that, isn't there a spring or weight behind it which sometimes goes AWOL / rusts to pieces??

(Just recalling answers to this problem which are usually given, but haven't made this thread, yet)
