My 2 year old manual toilet is working ok but the pump action is no longer smooth and there is a squeeky noise from the pump.
I am trying to get ( a very kind person who may be reding this!!) to bring out a spares kit so I can strip it down and examine
Are there any obvious causes for the problems I mention?
is the spares kit the 'way to go'?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Tried lubricating it with some cooking oil? ( Olive oil perhaps if you are in the Med.)

You only need a drip or two of cooking oil in the bowl to lubricate the piston.

It is possible that some toilet paper or something else has become trapped ..... but it should dissolve it time.

The worst problem is little guppies get up the intake and rotting .... phew!!!!

Complete seal kit is under £30 and new pump is about £60. Many people buy a spare pump as it is a 5 minute job to swap and strip/repair the original. You will probably find a strip down clean and a bit of oil will do the trick on a relatively new pump.

I find this happens from time to time particularly if someone has used a grease solvent/cleaning fluid on the toilet.

If you find that olive oil cures the problem, great! ............ But you may find the problem returns after a few days. Under such circumstances I undo the six scews at the top of the pump, withdraw the pump, grease the barrel of the pump with non-mineral grease (mineral based grease attacks the seals etc) and you should find the problem goes away for a season or two

It's always worth carrying a service kit for all your pumps. But a few drops of olive oil into the bowl should do the trick.

On the twist lock, undo the circular screw in bit that the pump shaft goes through, withdraw piston, cloth to catch water, smear of silicone grease, reassemble, job done, two minutes, just done mine.

Oh the joys of a Bank holiday Monday when I should be sailing.

As silver Fox & Vara say, lube it properly, it takes moments, if you have a holding tank using oils to lubricte (especially in anything over a few drops) is not a good idea as it creates a film on top of the contents which exclude oxygen for the good bacteria and provides a good environment for the smelly ones.

When we were long disance sailing were using the toilet 24X7 for years, we put cooking oil in the toilet before flushing twice a day. As said Oive oil is fine but can be more expensive.

The lubricant recommended by Jabsco is Vaseline, I use this a couple or so times a year and it keeps the pump working smoothly. I keep a little pot of it on board so that I can deal with the pump if it starts to get at all stiff.
