After 7 years the heads isn't as fresh as it use to be. I was planning to replace all hoses. Is this a likely cause and cure for the problem?

Apologies, posting in quick succession may have made it seem as though I was linking this issue to my earlier post. Just to be clear, are you saying that changing the hoses isn't going to help cure the problems of smells? If not, is there a generally recognised source for smells coming from a Jabsco WC.

Whilst I like the idea of the Head Cleaning System that Mark suggests, I would like to fit one after having first cured the problem

Provide the hoses are proper sanitation hoses, then smells can only be due to backflow, or maybe from the inlet hose initially after non-use for a while.

Even sanitation hose of the older type can become porous over time and cause smells. If they are still there after you have changed the pump and joker valve, plus flushed out the holding tank (assume that has a big enough vent) then replacing the hose with butyl sanitation hose is the next step.

Thankyou. Is there an effective, environmentally acceptable cleaning solution to help flush out a holding tank?

I believe you should flush it out more often.

Have just changed to a Jabsco head in my boat. Works well and I found the easiest way of getting the new sanitation grade pipe over the connectors/seacocks was by using a heatgun. In fact, after the no-go of ambient temperature and the sheer uselessness of boiling water, the heatgun worked like total magic.
