I looking for some advice on a Jabsco sea toilet as I have some issues this weekend.

It's pumping water in and when you pump it has some resistance. When I push the lever to pump out it doesn't and the pump has absolutely no resistance. So any advice? New service kit? New pump assembly?

It's a bit of an issue :o

Also how do I tell if it's a compact or regular one, picture attached if anyone can advise?

Thanks in advance.....:)

Looks like a compact from that pic.

Assuming no blockage, you can get a service kit for them, which will entail removing, dismantling and replacing various bits.

I find it easier to just buy a new pump assembly as it's quick and easy to change.

Hot tip - to 'impress' your SWMBO, when fixing it smuggle a bar of chocolate into the heads, replace the pump, then smear said chocloate all over face and hands before emerging... :D

It probably just needs a good service. You can by the a service kit for your unit based on age. Just release the piping, some pull off others have jubilee clips, Undo the 4 base nuts to free the pump unit watch for the large base rubber gaskets also the 'joker' gasket which will be in the end of the pump. They may have a chalky lime deposit which can be cleaned off or replace from the service kit. next is your switch (empty or fill) section this also as a rubber gasket just under the cover plate, watch which way it was fitted, then clean or replace. You could also check the gasket on the bottom of the pump Its a bit like a bicycle pump. Also there are small gaskets on the top of the pump. But the service kit should give you all the info on assembly.
To buy a new pump unit you will miss the opportunity to see how it works and be able to repair the unit if it goes wrong, say at sea!
Have fun ;O)

As has already been said, get a service kit and do it, actually if it's any age you may well be better with one of the later twist lock pump assemblies as they are not a huge amount more money that a full service kit. Doesn't matter whether it's a compact or full size, that's only the bowl size, all else is identical.

Interesting tip about chocolate. Certain pictures on my inner screen seems not to want to go away :D

Thank you all for your fast replies!! Will be ordering the parts online now to fix it otherwise I will not be popular!

Carlton - while the chocolate idea does sounds interesting I think that SWMBO will likely throttle me!

A better tip is to do the chocloate smearing trick, then run up to her and give her a nice big kiss. That should prevent any throttling incidents. ;)

She won't come near you

BTW it's part 21 and a small spring that's normally the problem

+2 with Carlton , get the new twistlock pump kit and also get the rebuild kit for the old pump , rebuild it and keep on board as a quick change backup :)

Ps. Bit No 3. Hinges.
Mine snapped,don't ask.
I was told hinges no longer available separately ,got to buy complete seat.

Went to Wickes and bought standard bog hinges, even holes were virtually the same.

Tip

If you have never done either fitting a kit or a pump before, a tip when refitting any screws back into plastic, turn them backwards to locate the thread start before screwing in as cutting a new thread is a recipe for disaster !

After several attempt with service kits over the years, I bought 2 new pump units for £50 each, and would do that every time if I were still using Jabscos.

The self tapping nature of the screws at the top of the unit make failure almost inevitable.

Service kit about £30, new pump about £50 - it became a no brainer

Service kit in Sicily £60!!!

an even better tip ! come out licking your fingers all covered in(bourneville)is best, regards mm1.

tip

forgot to mention a tip i learned on this forum, when refitting the self tappers turn them anti clockwise until they drop into their original holes & then tighten it saves the thread ,works for me,regards mm1.
