My Jabsco raw water pump is a 5850-0001, I found that one of the main shaft bearings was starting to sieze. I have bought replacement bearings but i'm having great difficulty removing the end coupling in order to fit the new bearings. I presume this is a press fit and i've made a jig to exert pressure on the shaft whilst applying heat to the coupling but so far without success. Has anyone done this before? ANy advice would be gratefully received.
 
Does the coupling need to come off? often the shaft is drifted from the pump housing leaving the bearing on the shaft. items are tight and difficult to remove without damaging the fragile bronze casings

Warming the casing with a gas blowlamp might help. on the pumps I have serviced this helped for me, though I havnt done one of your model. cleghorne site usually has access to drawings of the various types.

Yes unfortunately the bearings, a spacer and the coupling are fitted from the same end, there is a shoulder on the shaft after the last bearing and before the splines which drive the impeller.

This rebuild of a Johnson pump may help.
 
I did one recently. I used a simple frame with a bottle jack in it. Not a lot of force needed. Be aware that Perkins no longer support the 4-108 and do not supply bearings, but will supply seals. Complete pumps available from the website quoted.
I did find a bearing on a French site for €18 + P&P. It is a double row ball race.

As said, the bearing is against a shoulder on the shaft, so only comes off one way.
 
So long as you can see the identification number on the bearing a replacement can be bought from Simply Bearings. Seals also, you only need to know the dimensions - bore, OD and length. Stainless steel spring is best.

Most boatyards will press the old ones out for you. With care it is usually possible to press the new ones in with a vice.
