Our manual pump has started to not pump in seawater but it does pump out from the bowl. I'm guessing one of the seals has gone and either a rebuild or more likely a new twist and lock pump, but thought I'd ask here before ordering as it does work pumping out but not in.

I have checked the water inlet and that doesn't appear to be blocked, we did have a little dribble from the pump shaft for the last couple of weeks which is why I tink it's likely to be one of the internal seals, thoughts please

I had a brand new pump do the same. Jabsco advised to check the inlet pipe, like you have done. When flushing, a blocked inlet makes the flush action very stiff on both up and down strokes. I’ve still not fixed my loo.

First job on any boat I buy is fit an electric loo. This time I got a seaflo one. Found it for under £200. It’s not quiet but it’s powerful!

It’s a critical area of happy boating…or happy wife which equates to happy boating

If you remove the top of the pump there is a fancy gasket with valve flaps built in. Clean up the flaps (calcium deposits) and that will likely solve the problem.
I'll try this first many thanks

Take it apart, clean it and grease it. Possibly a free fix.
If that doesn’t work a service kit will fix it.
When they start to get stiff a bit of olive oil down the pan will free it up until the next service when you regrease it.

I also prefer electric loos but this is a big investment. The £200 ones (and the £400 ones) are a waste of money and you are better keeping what you’ve got (once you’ve fixed it) unless you can upgrade to a proper electric loo. (Planus or tecma).

i shall respectfully disagree on the “waste of money” techma (£1k+) vs £200 loo debate 🤣

Fair enough.

But lots of people spend £1000 on boat kit that gets used rarely. The loo gets used often.
And I don’t know anyone that has had a tecma or planus that would ever go back. When boat shopping a non tecma boat has the cost of upgrade on my day1 to do list.

My I’ve had 3 cheap electric loos. I’d choose the manual over them any time. They go wrong equally often but the manual is easier quicker and cheaper to fix.

Yesterday I stuck my head into the small space where the pipes run forward from the loo. I did indeed find a kink in the pipe that brings flush water to the loo. I’m quite surprised that the kink had developed. I adjusted the pipe and now all is well.

I ended up buying a new pump, £84 delivered, the rebuild kit was £45 and thought life is too short to be stripping down a stinky old pump, it took the whole of 10 mins to fit and back to full working order.
