So having followed all the advice to stop the boat sinking and connecting the inlet anti-syphon valve between the pump and bowl (on 2nd attempt) I am now getting water spraying out of the valve when pumping to fill the bowl - can't believe this is correct, any ideas what have I missed/done wrong?

Thanks for assistance

The valve is not acting as a valve.

The bit on the top of the loop should unscrew, and there should be a little rubber duckbill valve inside. Have a look and check it's a) still there, b) not perished, c) not jammed with some foreign object.

Pete,

Thanks for the response - the valve is there, not perished and nothing obvious jamming it (will double check when I get back on the boat). Could it be fitted the wrong way round - which way should the duckbill be facing?

Your valve is - I think - in the wrong hose. It should be it the hose that goes from the pump to the toilet. That was Vyv Cox's suggestion and it makes sense to me but wise minds will be along to confirm it or shoot me dead like a rabid dog.

That is where he said he put it - "between the pump and bowl"!

The purpose of the valve is to let air in without letting water out. So it should have the narrow end pointing inwards, where it will be squeezed shut by the water pressure. The wide end should face outside, so that the air can rush into it.
