When paying for things like boats or equipment, often in a weekend, cash is way to go when dealing privately. Can be a bit stressing to walk around with large amounts of cash but now we have an option: To receive credit card payments on our phone or pad.

iZettle does this on iPhone and iPad. The only obvious drawback is that you need a Facebook profile If you have none it can be set up without disclosing anything important.

Free to join, free card reader (not needed).

Cost for using iZettle is €0,15 plus 2,75% of the transferred amount.
Expensive? Not compared to other payment services (eg. Paypal).

Not connected with the company, but signed up and excited :D

 And yet iZettle is about receiving money.

To me the possibility to use cards directly between private people, is the attraction.

I'm afraid you wouldn't be buying anything off me using it, Facebook, pad, phone, pod or otherwise. Crisp sweet smelling cash for smaller items, a bank transfer for anything larger which won't cost either party 2.75%.

The reality is I could also pop a card payment through as well, 50 pence for a debit card, half the 2.75% for cards but I appreciate I'm not typical in that ability.

I am glad for your excitement though. Go out into the world and spend, spend, spend :)

You mention buying boats for cash, beware?

There is a Euro 10k limit on taking cash over borders and this applies UK to Channel Islands and vice versa as well. There are a suprising number of people being nicked in CI for this, we even have a money sniffer dog.

My ex wife could smell money,
She must be closely related to your dog having the same traits.
She was also loyal, but kept going to the toilet in the house so i sacked her...

Why would I want to accept a credit card payment which someone could later charge back?

It's necessary if you're a shop because you will lose custom without it, but for private sales cash or bank transfer (especially now they're near-instant) is the way to go.
