A friend of mine intends to buy a mobo with a 95 hp Iveco engine.
Has anybody heard about these?
On a picture I can see a plate that says Iveco Marine made in Italy.
My worry is that it might be difficult to get spares or would they be available through Iveco van dealers?

I had Iveco engines in my last boat. Very good, reliable and cheap to maintain as a lot of the spares are automotive or agricultural. The only down side that I thought was that they are not as compact as some of the latest 'purpose' built marine engines.

My engines were Iveco Aifo Spa. The blocks will probably be FIAT based. I managed to get complete service manuals on eBay. I think the engines are more popular in commercial vessels but nothing wrong at all in pleasure craft. In my opinion having an Iveco engine is a definate plus point over the expensive alternatives such as Volvo. Just look at the price of spares!

Ps I replaced a water pump on one of my 6-cyl 300hp Iveco and it cost me about £85 from a tractor spares dealer. The same (unmarinised) engine was used on a New England tractor. Oil filers and fuel filters were under a tenner each if I recall correctly.

They power most of the fishing boats in Italy; same Group has New Holland agricultural machinery and earth moving equipment.
Last year I transferred along italian coast a mobo with 2X90 Hp (20yrs old!!!): no fuss at all.

Because New Holland bought the Ford tractor business at Basildon. My first proper job was at that plant in 1965 when the C5NN series of tractors, built in UK US and Belgium were introduced. Somewhat ironic that New Holland was a minor Ford customer for engines and transmissions at the time. Such are the machinations of the global motor industry!
