Good Afternoon All,

Been a passive member here researching whilst on the hunt for a boat.

viewed one today with twin Iveco AIFO 8061 SRM. 220 HP units.

started fine from stone cold and settled down nicely.Worked with them in Pilot launches years ago but a little more paranoid if I’m potentially to own and maintain them.

Has anyone got any experience or warnings with these marinised truck engines?! Read bits about crank issues on higher output engines but don’t want to be buying issues.

many thanks in adVance,

Matt

hello,

my mobo has two 8061 SRM33 (330hp) units.
Yours iirc is the same block 6cyl again with turbo but lower rating? it's not naturally aspirated, right?

Had a discussion with my mechanic who claims that these motors are v.robust, wont pop a piston or crank metals, if you suffer from anything it's going to be paraphernalia.

If it's turbocharged, if the engine is properly installed with a proper exhaust elbow (and not the joke stock cast item - unless there's ample space/slope from it to the hull outlet) you wont have problems like the ones I had when I bought it with one turbo stuck due to seawater/salt returning back and making a mess of it. Also you wont have problems with the Buzzi wastegates, as any water coming back from the exhaust will rust them solid on the exhaust manifold needing machining work to remove and 700euro a pop for a new wastegate. Still using the boat with stuck wastegates and v.careful operation of the throttles...
Heat exchangers are robust, easy to remove and clean, other service items reasonably priced and available.

if you have any pics of the installation that would help.

cheers

V.

Evening Vas,

Thanks a lot for your response. Indeed the engines are turbo charged with a lot less boost id imagine also not sure if they would be intercooled at that lower rating?

The exhaust elbows look like they have been replaced with a fair aft running gradient to the transom outlets. Turbos sounded to be running and whining nicely but not sure how I’d check the wastegates.

Il take some photos on the next viewing of the installation but all was clean, smooth and started on the button when cold. A bit of blue smoke that cleared quite quickly.

Is good to hear spares are easy to source. Is that by engineer or direct online how you get spares?

Many thanks again,

Matt
