Yesterday and today I took my boat out for the first time under the expert guidance of Solitaire for some Own Boat Tuition (thanks Swiss for a great time!)

We were lucky with the weather yesterday but got soaked today. I had done the PB2 back in Oct but felt I needed some more guidance. I can recommend OBT for any newbies out there who just need a bit of extra confidence to get them on their way. After the 2 days I have been left feeling much more confident , picked up some great advice and am now even more excited about the season ahead.

Last night I plotted a passage for the first time using plotter and charts from the the Itchen to Newton Creek and today put it into action and it feels good when you can see the buoy ahead on the bearing you’d plotted. A bonus was seeing a seal and pup at Newton Creek next to us on the bank, I believe Solitaire took some pics in between eating my jaffa cakes...
Anyway, roll on the summer and some good weather.

(Also I now know somewhere that does a decent pub lunch for a fiver...invaluable!)

I'm really pleased for you. Just goes to show that it ain't just about driving a boat, but how you get there! The look on your dad's and your faces today when we picked up the buoy in Newton was what makes my job so satisfying. Well done to you both.

Here are the pix. In eternal gratitude for the Jaffa cake bars!
