I\'ve had enough of these black streaks

Every week I remove the black streaks from the topsides of my boat using expensive spray-on black streak remover, and every week they reappear, no matter how much I polish/seal the fibreglass. Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to paying through the nose for 'black streak remover' - something that won't damage the polished surface? And if anyone knows how to stop these black streaks appearing in the first place that would be a bonus. Are some boat covers more likely to produce black streaks from the run-off?

Maybe if you painted the boat in Henry Ford's favourite colour.....? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

On my boat there was a thin foam rubber tape running behind the aluminium rubbing strake along the toe rail..... i think this was causing the black streaks so I ran some captain tolleys creeping crack cure behind the aluminium strip and now no streaks....

orange clean powerfull paste cleaner

i have nothing at all to do with the company but came across the product by accident in the pound shop behind Brighton mariner.
absolutly brilliant cleaner , works on all boat scum and even comes with its own non scratch scourer. tel no on tub 08707898990 or www.greatcleaners.co.uk

I bought one tub of 397 grammes and used about half of same . its a paste a bit like soap and absolutely murders marks on the boat

give it a try if you can lay your hands on some

best stuff is HLB 's patented stuff. he postes on mobo forum and has a special concoction that is ace. but you MUST dilute it!

Ah, but what causes these bleedin streaks?
They generally tend to be below our windows, all of which have black rubber surrounds and some of which are going soft.
Can one do something to prevent this rubber "leaching" down the GRP?

it's cack in the air pulled down by rain and condensation. No black streaks in cleaner areas, plenty near cars and airports. Even with no runoff the black streaks appear where rain falls/collects slowly. Agreed hlb's stuff shifts it. A layer of polish also makes it easy to shift

Pah!! Poppycock!!
In that case why does it not happen on the paintwork of my car, in disgusting Loughborough, yet it does on our boat in the immaculate South Hams?
So there, matey /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
