i\'ve crashed my kite

Unfortunately my new kite suffered a crash landing at Ditchling Beacon. I've had a look on airbornekites.co.uk website no mention on how to fix a rip in fabric , swmbo says sewing not an option. Maybe spinaker tape or similar, please advise. thanks

Re: i\'ve crashed my kite

sew the sides of the rip together carefully by hand using a herringbone stich (a bit like darning one direction only) Then sew a patch over the rip using chain stitch. Keep it light & fine and it will fly OK. You could glue a patch on after stitching the sides together, but that will tend to stiffen the fabric which might affect its aerodynamic abilities.
An Iron on spinnaker patch is another solution and could be reinforced with light stitches.

well, it's had it then unless it is a real giant, i have tried for ages to repair sport kites kites and it doesnae work well at all. Get a new one, the frameless parachute types are quite good, especially as you can try to wham the thing on to the kids.

This ripstop tape sounds like the business, I'll call in at the paragliding place near Alfriston. Tis only a 2 string stunt kite but mighty entertaining with a decent blow and approx 250m of line. Will get swmbo to take a look when she emerges from beneath the duvet. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have an original Peter Powell stunt kite which I keep promising myself I'll fly again. I may just need some repair tape myself.

This Lot in Gillingham stock it.

Ive got a few yards of white 0.75oz spinnaker material if you want to fabricate a new cover.

I had one of those as a boy, mine was a blue one. I was so inspired that I built my own kite 6'6" x 4'6" it had the most collosal weight on the tail to keep it pointing in the right direction. the thing would pull me along if I wasn't careful. Every dog walker in the world used to make a bee line for me to discuss it which was very un-English it was a lovely time of my life, today everyone would just walk by. The only practicle problem I had was to get the thing down, I had to run down wind to spill enough air for it to float down.
